Fully analogue photonic reservoir computer

چکیده
Introduced a decade ago, reservoir computing is an efficient approach for signal processing. State of the art capabilities have already been demonstrated with both computer simulations and physical implementations. If photonic reservoir computing appears to be promising a solution for ultrafast nontrivial computing, all the implementations presented up to now require digital pre or post processing, which prevents them from exploiting their full potential, in particular in terms of processing speed. We address here the possibility to get rid simultaneously of both digital pre and post processing. The standalone fully analogue reservoir computer resulting from our endeavour is compared to previous experiments and only exhibits rather limited degradation of performances. Our experiment constitutes a proof of concept for standalone physical reservoir computers.

Reservoir computing is a recent bio-inspired approach for processing time-dependent signals. It has enabled a breakthrough in analog information processing, with several experiments, both electronic and optical, demonstrating state-of-the-art performances for hard tasks such as speech recognition, time series prediction and nonlinear channel equalization. A proof-of-principle experiment using a...
متن کاملSpontaneous Emission Spectrum from a Driven Three-Level Atom in a Double-Band Photonic Crystal
Abstract The spontaneous emission spectrum from a driven three-level atom placed inside a double-band photonic crystal has been investigated. We use the model which assumes the upper levels of the atomic transition are coupled via a classical driving field. The transition from one of the upper levels to lower level couples to the modes of the modified reservoir, and the transition from the oth...
متن کاملFully-Photonic Analogue-to-Digital Conversion Technique for Super-Broadband Digitized-Radio over Fibre Link
Digitized-Radio over Fibre (DRoF) techniques provide higher dynamic range and are more robust against optical link impairments. In this paper, a fully-photonic DRoF system is proposed and its performance is investigated in an integrated system with an analogue Radio over Fibre (ARoF) system. In this simulation based evaluation, DRoF and ARoF systems performance in the presence of other channels...
متن کاملBrain-inspired photonic signal processor for periodic pattern generation and chaotic system emulation
Reservoir computing is a bio-inspired computing paradigm for processing time-dependent signals. Its hardware implementations have received much attention because of their simplicity and remarkable performance on a series of benchmark tasks. In previous experiments the output was uncoupled from the system and in most cases simply computed offline on a post-processing computer. However, numerical...
متن کاملToward optical signal processing using photonic reservoir computing.
We propose photonic reservoir computing as a new approach to optical signal processing in the context of large scale pattern recognition problems. Photonic reservoir computing is a photonic implementation of the recently proposed reservoir computing concept, where the dynamics of a network of nonlinear elements are exploited to perform general signal processing tasks. In our proposed photonic i...
